We’re nearing the end of 2020 and what an extraordinary year it has been. It’s safe to say that if anyone had taken us to one side at a drinks party last Christmas and told us what was coming, we probably would have suggested less mulled wine and a good night's sleep! But here we are, preparing for the strangest Christmas in many years. It's a good time to look back and reflect on the events of 2020. Every single one of us has seen our life change dramatically during 2020, and the whole team at CENA extends our sincere sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one, friend or family member during the Covid-19 outbreak. It’s looking as though the rest of this winter will be tough, but the vaccination programme represents a light at the end of the tunnel. We hope that we can look forward to a return to something close to normality in the spring and summer.
2020 saw CENA receive four times more outdoor kitchen enquiries
2020 was a remarkable year for CENA. As people across the country were told to remain at home as much as possible, there was a shift in the way we viewed our houses and gardens. People started working their way through DIY jobs which had sat on lists for months, even years. They wanted to create better spaces to work, eat and relax. We saw enquiries for our outdoor kitchens rocket in April, May and June. It seems people started to realise a normal summer of overseas holidays and meeting friends at sporting events and restaurants was highly unlikely. Over the course of 2020, we eventually saw four times as many enquiries for our kitchens as we did in 2019. We've been busy ever since designing, crafting and installing them. Make sure you check out out gallery to see some of our latest installations.
Why outdoor kitchens are so popular at the moment
So why are outdoor kitchens proving to be so popular at the moment? It's important to note that interest in outdoor kitchens in the UK was growing year on year prior to Covid-19, just not quite that quickly... They’ve been popular in warmer climates for many years, but the trend for entertaining at home has increased their appeal. Outdoor kitchens allow people to make more of their gardens, transforming them into alfresco spaces for entertaining, relaxing and, of course, cooking! Paired with a spacious dining area and shelter from rain, wind and the hottest sunshine, an outdoor kitchen becomes the heart of the garden. A fridge and sink with full plumbing, side burners and induction hobs and the myriad other cooking components available? They all mean you can create more complex meals on an outdoor kitchen than you could on a BBQ. There are also chances to include in your outdoor kitchen some of the other outdoor cooking elements which are on trend at the moment. This year we're crafted kitchens which included pizza ovens and kamado-style grills such as Big Green Eggs.
